How to Keep Lizards Away

When it comes to reptiles, a few different things can keep them away. Onions and garlic are two great examples. Sprinkle them around your porch and you’ll be able to keep lizards away. While the smell of onions and garlic might be a little bit off-putting for humans, they’ll deter reptiles from entering your property. Similarly, pepper is another great repellent.

Peacock feathers

Peacock feathers are an excellent way to keep lizards away. Their bright colours and rounded middles resemble an eyeball, so they make lizards scurry away. The smell of a peacock feather is also enough to scare off lizards. Be sure to use real peacock feathers, not fake ones. However, they will not have the same effect as a real one.

You can purchase peacock feathers from your local pet store or online. Using tape, you can stick the feathers on the walls or in a flower vase. You can also place a peacock feather near exterior doors, where it is visible to lizards.

Garlic

Garlic has long been a natural pest repellent, and it can be used in several ways. You can place it around your house, particularly near windows and areas where lizards tend to congregate. It also works by giving off an odour that is unpleasant to lizards. It can be used directly on the skin, but you can also prepare a spray by soaking a few cloves of garlic in water and pouring it onto the area.

Garlic contains sulphur, which repels lizards because of its pungent odour. However, if you want to get a long-term repellent, try spraying the area with menthol or eucalyptus oil. Alternatively, you can sprinkle crushed eggshells around the area to deter lizards.

Onions

A natural repellent that works well for lizards is onions. Onions give off a strong, pungent odour that lizards cannot tolerate. If you don’t want to use onions, you can mix onion juice with water and spray it around the house. However, you should make sure that you spray from a safe distance as the onion juice can be harmful to lizards’ eyes.

Garlic is also an effective repellent for lizards. Its pungent smell is not tolerable to lizards and can be placed in different corners of the home, like the hinges of doors. You can also place sliced onion pieces on windows and doors to keep lizards away.

Coffee powder

The smell of coffee or tobacco powder is not a favourite of lizards, but it will keep them away from your garden. Alternatively, you can make little balls of powder and place them around the garden. If the lizards bite the balls, they will be killed by the powder.

Although most people think of snakes as dangerous animals, they are actually beneficial to humans. Snakes often prey on lizards. But, there’s no scientific evidence to back up this claim. Although the strong smell of coffee is believed to repel lizards, it’s also not known whether the caffeine in coffee is poisonous to lizards.

Eggshells

You can use eggshells to repel lizards in your yard. Lizards dislike the egg-like smell, and because of that, they will stay away from the area. Another trick is to scatter crushed eggshells around your yard. Lizards will also not like the taste of eggshells.

Eggshells also have a strong smell that keeps lizards away. Place eggshells in areas where they are known to visit. The smell of the egg will repel them and you can also sterilize them by using black pepper. However, you should dispose of the eggshells the next day for hygiene reasons. Alternatively, you can also use essential oils, such as peppermint and eucalyptus, to repel lizards. These essential oils should be added to a 16 oz or 8oz spray bottle.

Peppermint

Peppermint essential oil can be used to deter lizards. It works by providing an unpleasant odour. Spray it around the baseboards of your house and near the foundation. It is also useful in reducing the population of these pests. However, do be cautious about using peppermint on your pets, especially cats. It can cause irritation and even damage to the respiratory system.

Peppermint is a popular repellent for lizards and other pests. The powerful mint smell makes it ideal for keeping lizards away. You can grow peppermint in your garden or place it near a window to create a strong smell. Alternatively, you can use peppermint essential oil in a spray. To use the spray, make a mixture of 30ml peppermint oil in 30 ml of water. Spray this mixture around your house in the areas where you are most likely to see lizards. You can also spray the solution over your plants and floorboards to help repel lizards.
